Papeete Harbour

Papeete Harbour (Tahiti, French Polynesia) is a highly exposed harbour/reef pass surf spot right in the capital area of Tahiti. It’s best known for its fast, powerful reef waves and the iconic Tahitian backdrop of harbor infrastructure, ocean freight traffic, and volcanic island scenery.

What it’s like

• Power: Often heavy and punchy, especially when swell lines up
• Shape: Can offer quick, hollow sections with a challenging takeoff
• Consistency: More of a swell-dependent spot than an everyday cruiser; conditions need to line up well

• Works best with solid swell and favorable offshore winds
• Tends to handle larger south or southwest swells better than small surf
