Saint Joseph

Saint Joseph is a remote, tropical surf location in the Îles du Salut archipelago off the coast of French Guiana, near Cayenne. The islands sit in open Atlantic swell, so when conditions line up, Saint Joseph can pick up decent wave energy with a very exotic backdrop: dense jungle, volcanic rock, and turquoise water.

Wave character:
- Typically a reef / point-style tropical break with a more raw, exposed-ocean feel
- Best on consistent Atlantic swell, with shape depending heavily on tide and wind
- Can offer clean, fast, playful waves when the swell is right, but it’s not a highly reliable or heavily surfed spot

- Warm water year-round, so boardshorts or a spring suit are usually enough
- Best with light winds and favorable tide windows
- Because it’s remote, the spot may be affected by currents, reef exposure, and boat-access logistics
