Sciotot

Sciotot is a well-known surf spot on the Normandy coast of France, located near Les Pieux in the Cotentin Peninsula. It’s an exposed Atlantic-facing beach break that catches a lot of swell, making it one of the more reliable surf locations in the region.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Beach break, generally punchy and fast
• Best swells: Works well with west to northwest swell
• Wind: Often best with easterly or offshore winds
• Tide: Can change a lot with tide; conditions are often best around mid tide
• Skill level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers, though smaller days can be friendly for beginners

Conditions

Sciotot can produce powerful, hollow waves when the swell lines up, but it can also become messy and close out if the surf is too big or the wind is onshore. Because it’s on an open stretch of coast, it can pick up a lot of energy quickly.

Atmosphere

The beach is wide and scenic, with a rugged Normandy feel and a relatively wild coastline. It’s less tropical surf destination and more raw, windswept Atlantic surf. The setting is beautiful, with cliffs and open space around the beach.

• Can get crowded when conditions are good, especially by local surfers
