Sangatte

Sangatte is a wind-exposed beach break on the north coast of France, near Calais on the English Channel. Small note: it’s actually in Pas-de-Calais (Hauts-de-France), not Normandy.

What to expect

Sangatte has a wide sandy shoreline and open exposure to the Channel, so it can pick up energy quickly. On the right swell, it can produce decent, surfable peaks, but conditions are often choppy. Because of the strong winds and open beach, it’s especially popular with kite and wind sports.

• Autumn and winter usually offer the most consistent swell
• Spring can also be decent
• Summer is typically smaller and less reliable, though still surfable on the right day
