L'Ostriconi

L’Ostriconi is one of Corsica’s most scenic and punchy surf beaches, located on the northwest coast near the Balagne region. It’s a wide, natural sandy bay backed by dunes and scrub, with a fairly wild, open-ocean feel and beautiful mountain scenery all around.

Surf character

• Beach break with shifting sandbanks
• Can produce fast, hollow peaks on the right swell
• Works best with northwest to west swell
• Wind is best light offshore or calm; onshore winds can make it messy quickly
• Because it’s exposed, it can be powerful and inconsistent, with conditions changing fast

Best for

• Intermediate to advanced surfers
• Beginners only on small, gentle days
• Good for surfers who enjoy a remote, natural setting more than a super consistent wave

Conditions and hazards

• Can have strong currents and rips
• The banks can be sensitive to tides and storms
• It’s a beachbreak, so wipeouts are usually safer than reef spots, but the surf can still be heavy when it’s on
• Access and parking can be a bit limited compared with more developed beaches

Atmosphere

• Very wild and unspoiled
• Less crowded than many mainland French spots
• Great mix of surf, nature, and Corsican landscape
