Ile de Ré - Petit bec

Petit Bec is a scenic beachbreak on the western side of Île de Ré, exposed to the Atlantic and known for its clean, open-ocean swell. It can produce fun, punchy waves, especially on mid-to-higher tides, and works best with an offshore easterly to southeasterly wind. The spot is often at its best in autumn and winter, when Atlantic groundswell is more consistent.

The wave quality can vary depending on sandbanks, which shift through the season, but when conditions line up it offers good peaks suitable for intermediate surfers. In bigger swell it can get powerful and more challenging, while smaller days are more forgiving. The setting is a big part of the appeal: wide sandy beach, dunes, and a more natural feel than some of the busier spots on the island.

Because it is exposed, it can become messy quickly with onshore winds or too much swell, so checking forecast, tide, and sandbar conditions is important before heading out.
