Baie des Trépassés

Baie des Trépassés is a classic surf bay on the far western edge of Brittany, near the Pointe du Raz in Finistère. It’s a scenic, exposed Atlantic beach break known for its raw coastline, shifting sandbanks, and powerful surf.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly a beach break, with waves breaking over sandbars that can change a lot after storms.
• Consistency: It gets plenty of swell because it faces the open Atlantic, so it can work often when other spots are flat.
• Wave quality: When conditions line up, it can offer fun, punchy walls and reasonably clean peaks. After strong swell, it can get heavy and less manageable.
• Best conditions: Usually best with west to northwest swell and light offshore winds from the east or northeast.
• Tide: Can be tide-sensitive, with different peaks showing at different stages of the tide depending on sandbank shape.

Surf level

• Best for: Intermediates and advanced surfers.
• Why: The spot can be powerful, and currents can be strong, especially when the surf is bigger.
• Beginners: Possible on smaller days, but not ideal as a first surf spot due to power, rips, and exposed conditions.
