Morgat Harbour

Morgat Harbour, Brittany (northwest France) is a small, scenic surf spot on the Crozon Peninsula, near the village of Morgat in Finistère. It sits in a sheltered harbour area, so it’s generally less exposed than open-coast beach breaks nearby.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Usually a small, sheltered beach/harbour wave with softer, easier surf than the more powerful Atlantic exposures around Brittany.
• Best for: Beginners and improvers on smaller swells; also a good option when surrounding spots are too windy or too big.
• Conditions: Works best on clean, mid-size Atlantic swell with favourable wind. Because it’s sheltered, it can be a bit inconsistent and may need the right direction to really break well.
• Crowd: Often quieter than famous Breton breaks, though summer can bring more swimmers, boats, and local activity.

Spot feel

• Scenery: Very attractive setting with the harbour, cliffs, and the pretty coastal village of Morgat.
• Water: Cold year-round, so a thick wetsuit is needed most of the time.
