La Garde Guérin

La Garde Guérin is a surf spot on the north coast of Brittany, near the village of Ploumanac’h in the Côtes-d’Armor area. It’s a rugged, scenic Breton point-and-beach break known for its raw Atlantic exposure, rocky coastline, and clear water when conditions line up.

What to expect

• Wave type: Mostly a reef/point-style break with some beach-break characteristics depending on swell direction and sand movement.
• Best swell: It tends to work best on NW to W swell, when the Atlantic energy wraps into the bay and around the headland.
• Wind: Easterly offshore winds are typically best, helping clean up the wave face. W or SW winds can quickly make it messy.
• Wave quality: Can offer fast, powerful, and hollow sections on bigger days, but it’s very condition-dependent.
• Skill level: Generally better suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, especially when larger or more powerful.

Conditions and hazards

• The spot is rocky, so entry/exit and falling can be tricky.
