Belharra

Belharra is one of Europe’s most famous big-wave surf spots, located off the coast of the French Basque Country, near Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Urrugne, not far from the border with Spain.

What makes it special

• Huge outer reef wave: Belharra is an offshore reef break that only comes alive under very specific conditions.
• Big-wave only: It’s known for producing some of the largest rideable waves in Europe, often in the 10–20+ meter range during major swells.
• Rare and powerful: It doesn’t break often, and when it does, it’s typically during strong winter Atlantic storms with a perfect combination of swell direction, size, and tide.
