Digger is a well-known surf break in East Timor (Timor-Leste), typically associated with the Dili/nearby coastline surf zone. It’s valued for its clean tropical waves, warm water, and relatively uncrowded lineups, especially compared with more famous Indo spots.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Reef break, usually offering fast, hollow, and fairly powerful waves
• Best at: Medium to larger swells, depending on the reef setup and tide
• Skill level: Generally better for intermediate to advanced surfers because of the reef and shape of the wave
• Conditions: Can be very good when there’s a solid swell and light offshore winds

Spot character

• The break can produce longer, carving walls as well as sections that get punchy and critical
• It’s a spot that can reward good positioning and quick takeoffs
• Because it’s a reef break, tide and swell direction matter a lot

Environment

• Water temperature: Warm year-round, so a spring suit or even boardshorts are often enough
• Crowds: Usually much lighter than many Indo surf destinations

Things to watch out for

• Sharp reef and potential shallow sections
• Current and paddle-out difficulty on bigger days
