Smidstrup Strand is a beach spot on the north coast of Zealand, Denmark, near the town of Gilleleje. It’s not a classic big-wave destination, but it can be a fun wind- and swell-dependent surf spot for beginners to intermediate surfers, especially on the right winter or stormy conditions.

What it’s like

Beach break: Mostly a sandy beach with shifting sandbanks.
Wave quality: Can be uneven and inconsistent, but decent short-period windswells can create rideable peaks.
Best conditions: Typically works best with offshore or light cross-offshore winds and enough swell to build sandbank peaks.
Hazards: Watch for strong currents, changing sandbars, and cold water.

Surfing style

In larger conditions, it can offer quick, punchy beach-break waves.

Water/season

Cold water much of the year, so a thick wetsuit is usually needed:

Summer: lighter wetsuit or spring suit depending on conditions
