Pan Dulce

Pan Dulce is a playful but powerful surf spot in southern Costa Rica, near the Osa Peninsula and Golfito area on the Pacific South coast. It’s known for its long, peeling right-hand point break that wraps along the point into a sheltered bay, offering some of the more classic and consistent waves in the region.

Wave character

• Type: Mostly a right point break
• Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers, though it can have manageable days for progressing surfers
• Wave quality: Can be very clean and lined up when the swell and tide are right
• Size: Often small to medium, but can handle solid southwest swells and get quite punchy

Conditions

• Best swell: Generally works best on south to southwest swells
• Best wind: Typically likes light offshore winds or calm conditions
• Tide: Tide can make a big difference; some tides improve the shape and speed
• Season: The rainy season swell window usually brings the most consistent surf

Spot features

• The takeoff is often described as fun and forgiving, but the wave can race along the point and offer some fast sections.
• Because it sits in a more remote tropical area, it often has a relaxed lineup and beautiful jungle backdrop.
• It can be a great wave for longboarders on smaller days and shortboarders when it’s more powerful.

Atmosphere

Pan Dulce is part of the wild, lush, less-developed side of Costa Rica’s Pacific South. Expect: - Warm water - Tropical scenery - A slower pace than more developed surf zones - Occasional crowding when conditions are good, but generally less hectic than major surf destinations
