Jaco Beach

Jaco Beach (Costa Rica, Pacific South) is one of the most famous and accessible surf spots on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, often referred to as part of the “Pacific South” surf scene.

Jaco is a long, lively beach break with consistent waves, warm water, and easy access from San José. It’s popular with beginners, intermediates, and traveling surfers because it offers surfable waves year-round and plenty of surf schools, rentals, and accommodations nearby.

Conditions

• Wave size: Usually small to medium, but can get bigger during strong south swells

• Crowds: Often busy, especially near the main beach access points
• Bottom: Sandy, so it’s generally safer and easier for learning than reef breaks

• Dry season: December to April — cleaner conditions, more offshore winds
• Green season: May to November — more consistent swells, though rain and wind can make conditions less clean
• Peak swell season: Around May to October

Vibe

Jaco has a strong surf-town atmosphere mixed with nightlife, tourism, and a very social scene. It’s one of the easiest Costa Rican surf destinations for first-time visitors.
