Punta de Lobos

Punta de Lobos is one of Chile’s most famous surf spots, located just south of Pichilemu on the central coast of Chile, not in Santiago itself. It’s often described as the country’s premier big-wave destination.

Wave characteristics

Punta de Lobos produces a strong left point break that can run for a long distance when conditions are right. The waves can be steep, fast, and hollow, especially during larger swells. On bigger days, it becomes a serious big-wave spot with very solid power.

Best conditions

• Swell: South to southwest swells work best
• Wind: Light offshore winds, typically from the east
• Tide: Can work through a range of tides, but many surfers prefer mid to low tide depending on swell size
• Season: Best surf is usually in the Southern Hemisphere winter from May to September
