Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca, Antofagasta, Chile is a scenic desert-coast surf spot with a raw, open-ocean feel. Set along the northern Chilean shoreline near Antofagasta, it’s known more for its exposed beach-break conditions and dramatic Pacific backdrop than for easy, mellow waves.

• Consistency: More dependable when there’s a solid northwest or southwest swell running
• Wind: Best when offshore or light; local winds can quickly texture the wave

• The coastline is open and exposed, so the surf can get strong and sometimes heavy
• Conditions can change quickly with swell direction and tide
• The spot often has a remote, rugged desert atmosphere, with cliffs, rocks, and dry landscapes nearby
• Water is cold to cool due to the Humboldt Current, so a wetsuit is usually needed

• The main surf season is typically during the Southern Hemisphere winter and early spring when South Pacific swells are more frequent
• Summer can still offer surf, but often smaller and less consistent
