La Machacona is a well-known surf spot on the north coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands, exposed to the Atlantic and often working best when a solid northwest swell lines up. It’s a powerful, reef-based wave with a reputation for being fast, hollow, and demanding, so it’s generally best suited to experienced surfers.

What to expect

When it’s good

La Machacona tends to shine when: - there’s enough swell to make the reef work, - the tide is favorable, - and winds are calm or offshore.

Because Tenerife’s north coast can be exposed and changeable, the spot can go from clean and perfect to dangerous fairly quickly.

It’s a serious, local-feeling wave rather than a mellow beachbreak. If you surf it on a good day, expect a high-performance reef setup with a lot of power.
