Tindaya

Tindaya is a well-known surf area on the north coast of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, near the village of Tindaya. It’s part of the island’s rugged volcanic landscape, with exposed coastline, strong Atlantic swell, and often windy conditions.

Surf character

• Wave type: Mostly reef and rocky-point style waves depending on the exact break
• Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers, though conditions can vary by spot
• Consistency: Can pick up a lot of swell, especially in the winter Atlantic season
• Wind: Often affected by trade winds, so early mornings are usually cleaner

Conditions

• Swell: Works best with NW to N/W winter swells
• Tide: Tidal sensitivity varies by specific break
• Hazards: Sharp rocks, reef sections, strong currents, and exposed conditions

Atmosphere

Tindaya is less crowded than some of Fuerteventura’s more famous surf zones, and it has a wild, open feel with dramatic volcanic scenery. The area is also culturally notable because Montaña de Tindaya is an important landmark on the island.
