Suicidios

Suicidios is a well-known surf spot on Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, and it’s generally regarded as a powerful, fast, and fairly serious reef break. It’s not usually a beginner-friendly wave.

What to expect

Suicidios tends to produce quality waves when a solid NW swell meets favorable winds, especially light offshore or clean conditions. Because it’s exposed and reef-based, it can get steep very quickly, offering short, intense rides rather than long mellow ones.

Best conditions

• Swell: Northwest to north
• Wind: Light east or northeast offshore winds are often favorable in Fuerteventura
• Tide: Often works best at mid tide, but this can vary with swell size and reef exposure

Hazards and etiquette

Because of the shallow reef and power of the wave, wipeouts can be punishing. Booties are sometimes a good idea depending on conditions and your comfort with reef breaks. As with many Canary Islands spots, local etiquette matters, and it’s best to watch the lineup before paddling out.
