Los Lobos

Los Lobos (Fuerteventura, Canary Islands) is a powerful, open-ocean surf spot off the coast of the tiny island of Isla de Lobos, just north of Corralejo on Fuerteventura’s northeast side.

Spot description

• Type: Exposed reef/volcanic rock break
• Wave quality: Fast, punchy, and often hollow when conditions line up
• Best for: Experienced surfers looking for a challenging, high-performance wave
• Bottom: Reef/rock, so it’s not very forgiving
• Crowds: Usually less crowded than mainland-style beach breaks, but access and conditions limit who can surf it

Conditions

• Works best with strong Atlantic swell
• Prefers westerly to northwesterly swell directions
• Best with offshore easterly or northeasterly winds, which are common in the region
• Can handle bigger surf, but gets serious quickly as size increases

What to expect

Los Lobos can produce long, clean, fast-running walls and, on larger days, barrel sections. Because it’s exposed and sits in deep water, the wave can be powerful and highly dependent on the right swell angle. It’s not ideal for beginners.

Hazards

• Sharp reef and rocks
• Strong currents
• Heavy wash and limited bailout options
• Remote location, so rescue/access can be more complicated than at a normal beach break

Vibe

The spot has a remote, dramatic Atlantic feel, with views of Lobos island and Lanzarote in the distance. It’s one of those waves that can feel very rewarding when it turns on, but it demands respect.
