Hierro(left)

Hierro (Left) is a well-known left-hand reef break on Fuerteventura’s north coast, offering a fast, powerful wave when conditions line up. It’s part of the island’s exposed Atlantic surf scene, so it can produce quality surf, but it’s generally best suited to intermediate to advanced surfers because of the reef, speed, and occasional hollow sections.

Best conditions

• Swell: Northwest to north swell works well
• Wind: Light southeast or offshore winds are ideal
• Tide: Often depends on the exact section, but many reef breaks here prefer mid to low tide for shape and power

• Holds decent size when the swell is up
• Can have a steep takeoff and then race along the reef
