Raft Cove is a remote, rugged surf destination on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, inside Raft Cove Provincial Park. It’s known for its wild setting, long sandy beach, and serious exposure to North Pacific swell. This is not a casual walk-up surf break — it’s a backcountry-style surf mission with a strong sense of isolation.

What it’s like

• Wave quality: Often powerful and uncrowded, with beachbreak peaks that can offer surprisingly good shape when the sand lines up.
• Swell exposure: Very exposed to winter North Pacific swell, so it can pick up a lot of energy.
• Wind/conditions: Best conditions usually come with the right combo of swell direction and light/offshore winds; otherwise it can be raw and stormy.
• Water temperature: Cold. A thick wetsuit, hood, gloves, and boots are typically essential.
