Kabakum Beach is a surf and beach spot on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, just north of Varna. It’s a long, sandy beach with a fairly open exposure to easterly and northeasterly swell, so it can pick up wind-driven waves more reliably than many nearby sheltered spots.

What it’s like

Beachbreak: Mostly a sandy beachbreak, so the waves are usually softer and more forgiving than reef or point breaks.
Best for: Beginners to intermediate surfers, especially on smaller to medium-sized days.
Wave quality: Can be fun and playful when the wind and swell line up, but it’s not a consistent world-class surf destination.
Conditions: Often influenced by local wind, which can quickly turn it choppy. Early mornings and cleaner offshore or light-wind conditions are usually best.

When it works

Autumn and winter tend to be the better seasons for surf on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, when storms generate more frequent swell.
Summer is often too small and weak for proper surfing, though it can still be good for longboarding, beginner practice, or paddle sessions.

Crowds are usually light compared with major surf destinations.
