Praia do Francês is one of the best-known surf beaches in Alagoas, Brazil, located near the town of Marechal Deodoro, just south of Maceió. It’s sometimes grouped in regional travel mentions with nearby Sergipe/Alagoas surf zones, but the spot itself is in Alagoas.

Surf description

Type of break: Mainly a reef/point-style wave with sections that can also behave like a beach break depending on swell and sand movement.
Wave quality: Often offers fun, fast, and rippable waves, especially when swell lines up cleanly.
Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers on the better, faster sections; beginners can often find smaller, softer waves on sheltered parts of the beach.
Crowd: Very popular, so it can get busy, especially on weekends and holiday periods.

Conditions

Swell: Works best with consistent Atlantic swell, usually from the east/southeast.
Wind: Offshore to light winds improve the surf; stronger onshore wind can make it choppy.
Tide: Tidal influence matters a lot—some sections work better on mid tide, while others get too shallow or too soft depending on conditions.
