Guaraú (Peruíbe, São Paulo South Coast, Brazil) is a scenic beach-and-river area on the southern coast of São Paulo, known for its natural setting and more laid-back vibe than the better-known crowded surf towns.

Surf spot description

Guaraú sits near the mouth of the Rio Guaraú, where the river meets the ocean. Because of this, the spot can have changing sandbanks and shifting peaks depending on swell, tide, wind, and river flow. It’s often a quieter, more localized beachbreak with decent wave options when conditions line up.

Wave characteristics

• Type: Beachbreak, with possible sandbar peaks near the river mouth
• Wave shape: Can be fun and rippable on the right swell, but often variable
• Power: Usually moderate, though it can get punchy when swell size increases
• Consistency: Not the most consistent spot; better with a good southeast swell and favorable winds
• Best conditions: Typically southeast or south swell with light offshore winds from the land
