Sununga is one of the most famous surf spots on Brazil’s São Paulo North Coast, located in Ubatuba. It’s known less as a mellow longboard wave and more as a heavy, powerful shorebreak with a strong local reputation.

What it’s like

Sununga is a small bay with a steep sand bottom, which creates a wave that can pitch hard very close to shore. When conditions line up, it can produce short, explosive barrels, but it’s also very unforgiving because the wave breaks in shallow water. This makes it a spot that rewards skill, timing, and confidence.
