Santinho is a well-known surf spot on the northeast coast of Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. It’s set beside a beautiful stretch of sand near Praia do Santinho, with a scenic backdrop of rocky headlands, dunes, and Atlantic Forest-covered hills.

Surf overview

  • Wave type: Mostly beach break
  • Best winds: Offshore with west to southwest winds
  • Swell direction: Works well with east to northeast swells
  • Skill level: Can suit intermediate to advanced surfers, though it can be more forgiving on smaller days
  • Wave quality: Often powerful and hollow, especially when sandbanks line up

Conditions

Santinho is exposed to the open Atlantic, so it can pick up plenty of swell. When the sandbars are in the right place, it can produce fast, punchy waves with sections for turns and the occasional barrel. Like many beach breaks, the setup can change a lot with sand movement and tides.

Best time to surf

  • Autumn and winter usually bring the most consistent and powerful swell.
  • Summer can still offer fun surf, but waves are often smaller and more mellow.
  • Tide can make a big difference, so checking local reports is important.

Atmosphere

Santinho is less urban than some of Florianópolis’ more famous surf areas, which gives it a more natural, relaxed feel. It’s a good spot if you want a mix of solid surf and scenic surroundings.
