Leste-Oeste

Leste-Oeste is a surf spot in Ceará, Brazil, known as an urban beachbreak right near the city of Fortaleza. It’s on the coast where the shoreline is exposed to Atlantic swell, so it can pick up waves well when conditions line up.

What to expect

• Wave type: Mostly beachbreak
• Best conditions: Clean groundswell with a favorable wind, often early morning before the breeze gets onshore
• Wave quality: Can be fun and punchy, but it’s generally more of a local/accessible city surf spot than a highly consistent world-class reef or point
• Crowd: Often can be busy, especially when the surf is good, because of its proximity to the city

Surf feel

• Good for shortboard surfing when it’s working
• Can also be approachable for intermediate surfers depending on size and sandbar shape
• Conditions can change quickly because beachbreak sandbars shift with tides and swell

Best time of year

Ceará gets surf year-round, but the better swell seasons are usually during the Austral winter to spring months when North Atlantic swell can reach the coast more reliably.

• Being close to Fortaleza makes it easy to access
• The spot’s quality depends a lot on sand movement, tide, and wind
• As with many Brazilian beachbreaks, it can produce strong currents and shifting peaks
