Altona Pier

Altona Pier is a popular surf and bodyboard spot in Melbourne’s western suburbs, in Altona, Victoria. It sits on Port Phillip Bay, so it’s more of a small, wind- and swell-sensitive bay wave than a heavy open-ocean break.

What it’s like

• Best swell: Typically works best on a modest SW to S swell with some wind chop or local groundswell.
• Wind: Often wants light NW to N winds for cleaner conditions, though bay spots can be fickle.
