Berry's Beach

Berry’s Beach is a scenic, exposed surf spot on the south side of Phillip Island in Victoria, near Melbourne East. It’s known for its powerful Southern Ocean energy, producing quality waves when conditions line up, but it’s also a more remote and sometimes less crowded option compared with the island’s better-known breaks.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly a beachie/reef-influenced setup with punchy surf and shifting banks.
• Best swell: Works best with southerly to southwesterly swells.
• Wind: Usually prefers light northerly to northeasterly winds; strong onshore westerlies can make it messy.
• Exposure: Very exposed, so it can get big and raw quickly.

Conditions

• Can offer fast, hollow sections when the sand and swell align.
• On smaller days it may be less consistent, but when a solid groundswell hits it can fire.
• Because it’s exposed to the open ocean, conditions can change rapidly with tide, swell direction, and wind.
