Goolwa Rivermouth

Goolwa Rivermouth is a well-known surf and river-mouth break in South Australia near Goolwa, at the mouth of the Murray River on the Fleurieu Peninsula (not the Yorke Peninsula).

What it’s like

• A sandbar/river-mouth setup that can produce fun waves when sandbanks line up.
• Often offers fast, hollow, punchy lefts and rights depending on swell, sand movement, and river flow.
• Can be inconsistent because the banks shift frequently and the river mouth changes shape over time.

Conditions

• Works best with good swell and the right tide and wind.
• Can be affected by strong currents, shifting channels, and changing sandbars.
• More suitable for surfers who are comfortable reading variable beachbreak/river-mouth conditions.
