Queensie Mini

Queensie Mini is a small, fairly localized surf break on the Sydney North Shore in New South Wales. It’s generally considered a weaker, smaller-wave option compared with nearby more famous reefs, but it can be a fun spot when conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Typically a reef/point-style break with a compact takeoff and a short, punchy ride.
• Best size: Usually works best in smaller to medium swells. When it gets too big, it can become fast, hollow, or less user-friendly depending on the sand/reef setup.
• Shape: Often described as a miniature version of a better-known local wave, with a quick takeoff and a brief sectioning wall.
• Crowds: Can be local and crowded, especially when the conditions are good and the swell is manageable.
• Skill level: Better suited to intermediate to advanced surfers who are comfortable with reef setups and quick entry.

Conditions

• Wind preference: Clean offshore or light winds are ideal.
• Tide sensitivity: Like many Sydney reef breaks, it can be quite tide-dependent, with a preferred tide range varying by swell direction and size.
• Swell direction: Usually wants a solid, well-directed groundswell to light up, but not so much that it overwhelms the takeoff zone.

• Shallow reef: Be mindful of the reef, especially on lower tides.
