D-Head Reef is a reef break on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in New South Wales. It’s known as a more exposed, powerful surf spot with a raw, shallow-reef feel rather than an easy beach break. On the right swell, it can produce hollow, punchy waves with decent shape, but it can also be inconsistent and unforgiving.

What it’s like to surf

D-Head Reef tends to reward good timing and positioning. When it’s working, the waves can stand up quickly and offer solid face sections or shorter, punchier rides. Because it’s a reef, the wave quality is often more defined than nearby beach breaks, but there’s less forgiveness if you mistime a takeoff.
