Guillotines is a powerful South Coast NSW reef break known for heavy, fast, and fairly unforgiving waves. It’s one of those spots that tends to light up when there’s a solid swell and the right direction, producing steep takeoffs and a critical, hollow wall that can get very intense very quickly.

A few general characteristics:

  • Wave type: Fast, hollow reef break
  • Best for: Experienced to expert surfers
  • Conditions: Usually needs a decent swell and favorable wind; can be highly tide-sensitive
  • Hazards: Shallow reef, strong power, and a consequential wipeout potential
  • Crowds: Often less of a casual session spot because of its reputation and challenge level

The wave is generally regarded as high consequence rather than user-friendly, meaning it’s not a beginner spot and can be dangerous if you’re not familiar with the local setup, tides, and entry/exit points.
