Dreamtime

Dreamtime is a well-known surf break in northern New South Wales, Australia, typically associated with the Coffs Harbour / North Coast area. It’s an exposed reef/point-style break that tends to light up when a solid swell lines up from the south or southeast.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Fast, punchy, high-performance right-hand point/reef wave
• Best swell: S, SE, sometimes E/SE
• Best wind: Light offshore to calm; usually westerly winds are best
• Size: Can handle a decent amount of swell and can get powerful when it’s on
• Wave shape: Often long, fast walls with sections that can barrel or offer heavy turns depending on tide and swell angle

Conditions

• Tide: Usually works best on a mid tide range, though the sweet spot can shift with swell size
• Bottom: Reef/rocky bottom, so wave quality can be excellent but the spot demands respect
• Crowd: If it’s on, expect competition—good waves are often highly sought after

Vibe / surfing level

Dreamtime is generally considered a more advanced wave due to the speed, power, and reef bottom. It’s a spot for confident surfers who are comfortable with: - late drops - fast sections - taking off in bigger, steeper surf - navigating a reef break safely
