Tura Reef

Tura Reef is a reef break on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, near the Tura Beach/Merimbula area. It’s known as a solid, exposed Southern Ocean-style surf spot that can light up with powerful swells, especially when other beaches are smaller or blown out.

What it’s like

• Best swell: Long-period southerly to southeast swells
• Wind: Usually best with westerly to northwesterly offshore winds
• Ability level: Generally intermediate to advanced, depending on size and conditions
• Character: Fast, powerful, and can be hollow on the right day

Conditions

Tura Reef tends to work best when: - swell has enough size and angle to wrap into the reef - winds are clean/offshore - tides are favorable, often somewhere around mid tide depending on the reef setup

Because it’s a reef, the takeoff can be critical, and the wave may run quickly along the ledge. When it’s big, it can be heavy and shallow, so caution is important.
