Coledale Beach is a scenic surf beach on the NSW South Coast, in the Coal Coast stretch north of Wollongong. It’s a relatively exposed open beach break, framed by the Illawarra escarpment and backed by a laid-back coastal village atmosphere.

What it’s like to surf

Wave type: Mostly a beach break, with shifting sandbanks that can produce fun peaks and occasional longer walls.
Best conditions: Often best with a southerly to southeast swell and moderate offshore westerly winds.
Skill level: Can suit beginners to intermediates on smaller, cleaner days, but it can get powerful and rippy when surf is up.
Crowds: Usually less crowded than more famous nearby spots, though it can still draw local surfers when conditions line up.
