Coalcliff (Illawarra / Coal Coast, NSW) is a rugged south-coast surf spot tucked below steep cliffs between Sydney and Wollongong. It’s best known for its dramatic setting, open-ocean exposure, and often powerful beachbreak conditions rather than being a mellow beginner wave.
