Bugs

Bugs is a surf spot in Central NSW, Australia, known as a reef/point-style break rather than an easy beachie. It tends to suit surfers who are comfortable reading a wave and handling a bit more power and shape than a standard beach break.

General characteristics

• Wave type: Reef/point-style waves with more defined peaks and longer walls
• Best direction of swell: Usually works best with clean southeast to east swell
• Wind: Most enjoyable in light offshore or light variable winds
• Tide: Often changes a lot with tide; many reef spots are best around mid tide

What it’s like

Because it’s a reef-influenced break, the wave quality can be quite dependent on swell angle, tide, and sand/reef setup. It may be inconsistent compared with more exposed beach breaks, but when it’s on, it can be very good.
