Playa Unión

Playa Unión is a surf spot on Argentina’s Atlantic coast, near Trelew/Rawson in Chubut Province, in the far south of the country. It’s a long, open beach break exposed to South Atlantic swells, which means it can offer fun, punchy waves when conditions line up.

What it’s like

• Wave type: Mostly beach break
• Best swell direction: Typically works well with east to southeast swell energy from the South Atlantic
• Wind: Offshore or light westerly winds are usually best; strong winds can make it messy
• Bottom: Mostly sand
• Crowd: Generally lighter than major surf destinations, though it can get busy when conditions are good

Playa Unión can be inconsistent but rewarding. Because it’s exposed to the open ocean, it depends a lot on swell size and wind. When everything lines up, it can produce clean peelers and hollow sections suitable for intermediate surfers, and at times more powerful surf for experienced riders.
