Escollera Necochea

Escollera Necochea (North), Argentina is a break near the port/jetty area of Necochea on the Buenos Aires coast. It’s known more as a coastal jetty/point-style surf spot than a classic beachbreak, so the waves can be a bit more organized when the swell and wind line up.

Spot character

• Type: Jetty/point-inspired break
• Exposure: Works best with Atlantic swell angles that wrap into the structure
• Wave quality: Can be fun and reasonably clean when conditions are right, but it’s often more sensitive to wind, tide, and swell direction than open beachbreaks
• Crowd level: Can get busy when it’s firing, especially if it’s one of the better, more reliable waves in the area

Best conditions

• Swell: Medium to strong southeast/east-southeast Atlantic swell tends to be the most useful
• Wind: Offshore or light winds from the west/northwest are generally best
• Tide: Often best around mid tide, though this can vary with swell size and the way the bottom/jetty shapes the wave
