Quicombo

Quicombo is a lesser-known surf spot on Angola’s central coast, near the town of Sumbe in Cuanza Sul Province. It’s part of a long, largely undeveloped Atlantic coastline that gets solid swell exposure, especially from the southwest and west during the southern hemisphere winter.

Surf character

• Type: Beachbreak, with some potentially shifting sandbars and occasional reef influence depending on the exact stretch of coast
• Wave quality: Can be powerful and fun when conditions line up, but it’s generally more of a raw, uncrowded African coast setup than a polished “perfect point break”
• Best for: Intermediate to advanced surfers, especially those comfortable reading changing beachbreaks and handling strong conditions

• Best swell season: Typically May to September, when Southern Ocean swells reach Angola more consistently
• Wind: Often best with light offshore or low-wind mornings; trade winds and afternoon winds can reduce quality
